Updates policy
Kenyan tax laws change. The Finance Act drops every year. KRA updates rates. SHA replaces NHIF. The Housing Levy gets introduced. Karatasi templates that depend on these rules are kept current — automatically, at no extra cost, for 12 months from purchase.
What you get
- Free updates for 12 months from the date of purchase, sent automatically to your email
- Notification when a meaningful change happens (e.g. KRA changes a tax rate)
- Migration help if the new version requires you to move data from an old version
When we update
We update affected templates whenever:
- The Finance Act passes and changes a rate, threshold, or rule (typically July each year)
- KRA publishes a new tax obligation, deduction structure, or filing process
- A new statutory deduction is introduced (e.g. SHA, Housing Levy)
- We find and fix a bug that affects accuracy
- We add features customers have requested enough times
Recent example
When the MRI tax rate dropped from 10% to 7.5% (effective 1 January 2024), every customer who'd bought our Rental Income Tracker received the updated version by email within a week, with a short note explaining what had changed.
How will I know an update arrived? The updated file lands in the same inbox you used to buy. Check the email subject — it'll say "Updated: [Template Name]" along with what changed.
After the 12 months
After your free update window ends, you keep your existing templates forever — they don't stop working. If you want continued updates, you can:
- Buy the latest version at the current price (we usually offer a returning-customer discount)
- Or just keep using your existing copy. It'll continue working — you just won't automatically get new tax rate changes
